Role Summary

Under supervision of more experienced technical personnel, the Associate Chemist will work with other researchers and multidisciplinary project teams to solve problems using various analytical chemistry techniques.

The individual will use and sometimes develop analytical methodology to solve various technical challenges for product and process development scientists.

The Associate Chemist will be able to interpret and communicate results to various product and process personnel.

The individual will also provide technical guidance to other chemists and technicians in the department.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Must be able to carry out technical assignments, validate results, draw conclusions, and write technical summaries.

  • Assist product and process development groups in solving their technical problems using the results of appropriate analytical methodology.

  • Modify analytical techniques for the quantitation of analytes, carry out method validation protocols.

  • Assist product, process groups and manufacturing facilities troubleshoot product and process issues as they arise.

  • Modify QC test methodology for manufacturing plants and copackers, execute method transfer protocols

  • Validate analytical testing methods following protocols

  • Works cross-functionally with R&D Formulation, Technology, Process, Quality and Manufacturing.

Education and Experience

  • The successful candidate will have a B.S. degree from an accredited institution in Chemistry or related discipline, with 0-2 years of laboratory and industrial/technical experience .

  • An internship or Co-Op experience is preferred but not required.

  • Experience working independently with various analytical instruments in an industrial environment

  • Some experience in analytical problem-solving

  • Broad, hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation and analytical instrument troubleshooting

  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to work effectively with personnel from different technical disciplines towards problem resolution.

  • Must possess good, hands-on analytical laboratory skills

  • Must be able to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Ability to train other technical personnel in the department in the use of analytical instrumentation
