Job Overview:

 Job Summary 

Homestead Building Systems, Inc., has been servicing the Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. Area with the finest truss systems and wall panels for residential construction since 1996. Our company provides framing manufacturing, distribution, and construction services to the most respected home builders in the marketplace. The Project Manager Trainee (PMT) works closely with the Project Managers to ensure each job runs in an efficient and timely manner. PMTs play an integral role in ensuring that Homestead Carpentry develops a solid reputation for framing the highest quality homes and having excellent customer service. 



  • Manages framing, cornice, or other subcontractor crews including determining staffing needs and payroll reporting on multiple jobs
  •  Assists the Project Managers in adhering closely to the framing schedule 
  • Schedules delivery of materials to job sites to ensure the required materials arrive in a timely manner 
  • Coordinates project schedule with Home Builders’ Site Superintendents 
  • Immediately communicates any issues with materials, subcontractors, etc. to the Project Managers 
  • Assists in tracking the maintenance of forklifts and man-lifts 
  • Completes and submits change orders in a detailed and timely manner 
  • Assists in creating punch lists throughout each phase of construction. Ensures the punch-out items are completed. Takes detailed photos of property
  • Monitors site safety, ensuring workers adhere closely to HCA and OSHA safety requirements  
  • Trains Construction Laborers to learn framing techniques and site safety 
  • Performs framing as needed: understands and utilizes blueprints to accurately measure, cut and install lumber or other building materials 
  • Manages all paperwork and electronic files in a timely and organized way 
  • Other duties as assigned 


Education and Experience 

  • Associate degree required; 2-3 years of experience in construction or framing carpentry may be accepted in lieu of a formal degree 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Adobe, and Excel 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record 
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints 
  • Fluent in Spanish and English preferred

Supervisory Responsibility 

  • This position has supervisory responsibilities 



  • Position requires frequent travel throughout VA and MD; on rare occasions this position requires travel of greater distances and will include overnight stays

Physical Demands 

  • This position requires consistent lifting, pulling, bending, walking, climbing construction ladders and stairs, and standing throughout the day 
  • Must be able to detect issues in the roof trusses and wall panels; communicates constantly with others

  • This position operates on construction sites where there’s exposure to inclement weather, sometimes working in heat and cold. At times the noise level may be
