Assistant Controller / Senior Accounting Mana

Summary: This is an extraordinary opportunity for a mature leader of accounting, finance, and Managerial experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to executive teams and stakeholders. This high-level accounting position will be accountable for all financial accounting functions for the company which includes but is not limited to internal and external financial reporting, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, assisting with the coordination of external audits, ensure that finance is reporting within internal control measures, and drive efficiency changes.  A successful candidate must have a strong will to drive and successfully implement change, be charismatic, have strong verbal and written communication skills, display the ability to manage both up and down as well as across multiple departments, manage multiple priorities, ability to get into issues and come up with resolutions independently, and be a hands-on finance team member and leader.



  • Minimum of a BA in Accounting; CPA/CMA and/or MBA Accounting/Finance preferred
  • Five plus years of experience as a Senior Accountant or three years as an Accounting Manager
  • Excellent technical knowledge of GAAP including revenue recognition and cost accounting 
  • Manufacturing and Agricultural Accounting experience a plus
  • Consumer Packaged Goods company experience a plus
  • Understanding of fully integrated ERP system functionality
  • Experience using Cognos or other Analytic systems
  • A proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the Finance Directors, the responsibility for company Accounting and Finance functions
  • Experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and risk management
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software products
  • Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management and other outside partners
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers

Accountability #1 – Management 30%

  • Ability to influence outcomes and a proven track record of results working with senior leadership in a consultative business approach.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee the operations of the financial accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
  • Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with all areas of management
  • Directly and Indirectly Manage financial accounting staff that includes up to 6 staff members with varying degrees of experience
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis 
  • Ensure proper lines of credit are maintained for customers
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Ensure the maintenance of orderly accounting filing systems


Accountability #2 – Reporting 30%

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements
  • Ensure accuracy and reporting of trade and other accounts payable/receivable ensuring prompt payment/collections and reconciliation.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual audited financial statements
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Direct development of critical systems that support financial and other metric reporting
  • Ensure accuracy and reporting of trade and other accounts payable ensuring prompt payment and reconciliation
  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Provide for a system of management cost/spend/efficiency reports
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations


Accountability #3 – Planning 30%

  • Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives such as new business developments of Finance structure
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans and annual operating plans
  • Hands-on partner to the leadership team for business planning, financial forecasting, budgets, and management reporting activities.
  • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes
  • Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction


Accountability #4 – Compliance 10%

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Work with external tax firm to prepare tax filings and overall tax strategies that minimize company and shareholder tax liabilities
