Assistant Controller

 

Job Summary:

 

Our client in Auburn Hills, MI is looking for an Assistant Controller. This is a Direct Hire position.

As a key member of the financial team of the Auburn Hills Corporate Office and Technical Centre, the Assistant Corporate Controller will oversee various financial functions including banking, intercompany transactions, the balance sheet and more. The role involves continuous process improvement and staff training to enhance efficiency and compliance with company policies while maintaining strong internal controls. Responsibilities also include managing the day-to-day activities, co-leading the annual budget process and monitoring departmental spending against budgets and forecasts. The position also encompasses financial management for the Research & Development Lab.

 

Required Education & Experience

Candidates must possess a college diploma or university accounting degree, with CA, CMA, or CPA designations preferred. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in finance, particularly in a manufacturing or corporate setting, is required. Experience in the automotive industry is preferred, along with proven leadership skills and the ability to manage a team of financial analysts. 

 

Essential Functions

·       The Controller is responsible for:

·       Communicating financial results to the Corporate Controller, departmental leaders and the corporate office each month.

·       Managing month-end reporting with a 1-week close timeline, and daily finance department activities.

·       Creating accurate forecasts in collaboration with departmental leaders.

·       Reviewing and approving journal entries and maintaining internal controls. 

·       Preparing the annual budget and ensuring accountability for variances for each department and cost type.

Overseeing the annual external audit process, and the internal audit process
