JOB SUMMARY

 

The Plant Maintenance Technician has a critical role dedicated to ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of asphalt production machinery. This position involves inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of complex stationary and mobile equipment, including drum mixers, conveyor systems, and emission controls. As a primary guardian of plant uptime, you will execute a rigorous preventative maintenance program, perform emergency mechanical repairs, and engage in precision fabrication and welding. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions in asphalt plant equipment (drum dryers, elevators, screens, and baghouses).
  • Maximize performance of stationary equipment by performing repairs and ensuring preventative maintenance is completed on a timely basis.
  • Repair or replace defective parts including gearboxes, bearings, shafts, pulleys, idlers, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Monitor plant performance and adjust mechanical components to maximize yield and ensure the consistent flow of hot-mix asphalt.
  • Perform expert welding (Arc/MIG/TIG) and torch cutting to fabricate, erect, or reinforce plant structures and processing equipment.
  • Execute daily greasing and lubrication schedules according to the company’s Maintenance Module to prevent premature wear.
  • Conduct daily OSHA pre-shift inspections of work areas and equipment to identify hazards or potential mechanical failures.
  • Monitor wear-life on high-impact components, such as conveyor belts and liner plates, and schedule proactive replacements to avoid unplanned downtime.
  • Operate support machinery, including front-end loaders, skid steers, man-lifts, and cranes, to facilitate repairs and maintain site cleanliness.
  • Partner with the Plant Manager to prioritize the maintenance backlog, ensuring critical repairs are addressed during scheduled windows.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop and plant site, ensuring tools are preserved and walkways remain free of debris.
  • Accurately complete maintenance logs, inventory reports, and safety paperwork in accordance with Martin Marietta and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure emissions control systems (baghouses) are functioning correctly to remain in compliance with environmental permits.
  • Trains and coaches other employees on all maintenance practices.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

 

High School diploma, GED, or relevant experience

 

Work Experience

 

1+ years of experience in Heavy-Duty Industrial Maintenance, preferably asphalt.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Equipment analysis and general repair concepts

Troubleshooting

OSHA regulations and compliance

Problem solving skills

Detail orientated

Time management

 

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

 

Physical Requirements

 

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for plant maintenance and equipment servicing.

Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. You must be able to maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders.

Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls. You must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.

 

Working Conditions

 

All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.

 

Union

 

We are excited to share the base hourly rate for this position is $34.01+. Membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union No, 9 is required upon hire. Condition and terms of employment and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
