Job Description:

The Architectural Designer/Draftsperson is responsible for creating and developing roofing
architectural/engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established
specifications and standards. The incumbent of this position will apply their knowledge of
industry-specific drafting codes and standards to all roofing product drawings while also
supporting any and all compliance procedures of drafting and engineering standards. This
role will oversee the standard plan models to ensure they are being maintained and updated
as standards codes are revised and updated.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Drafting responsibilities to include: Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents. Translate and convert hand drawings and sketches into CAD systems.

  • Obtain and assemble information to complete architectural drawings by visiting manufacturing lines and visit job sites as necessary.

  • Maintain technical industry knowledge by attending educational workshops, webinars and reviewing technical publications.

  • Develop and maintain open interdepartmental communications with: Technical Services, Field Services, Purchasing, Sales, Marketing and R&D teams as required to assist with the drafting duties required.

  • Work towards transforming initial roofing project designs into working documents. Roofs may include various roofing products used for residential, sheet metal, commercial, and roof-mounted solar systems.

  • Visit active construction projects to obtain an appreciation for the accuracy and clarity of the information necessary for the drafted detailing work, stakeholder processes and related workstreams.

LEVEL BASED COMPETENCIES:

Technical knowledge/skills (entry, intermediate, advanced):

  • In depth knowledge of Roofing Industry Code & Standards

  • Intermediate proficiency with AutoCAD suite

  • Intermediate knowledge of CAD design/drafting practices and procedures

  • Exterior building envelope or structural detailing experience is a strong plus

  • Experience with BIM administration and managing all parts with proficiency with Revit

  • 3-D software experience with programs such as Navisworks and Sketch-up

  • Project management software and familiarity and proficiency with presentation software

  • Preferred knowledge of how roofing assemblies and details are installed and coordinated with other trades

  • Preferred experience with MasterSpec or similar specification development software

General knowledge/skills (entry, intermediate, advanced):

  • Knowledgeable: Google Suites, MS Office, Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat Pro

  • Proven ability to prioritize/time management skills

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with different levels across the organization

Education/Experience:

  • Associate's degree in Drafting/Architectural Design or a related field

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in architectural detailing with proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural drawings or equivalent industry experience
