Introduction

Express Employment Professionals – Skilled Trades Division is hiring an Apprentice Die Repair Technician for an established manufacturing company. This is a great opportunity for someone with 1–2 years of die repair experience or a background in manual machining, CNC machining, surface grinding, or bench tooling who wants to grow their skills in the Tool & Die trade. No Apprentice or Journeyman certification required! We're looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined individual eager to learn and develop into a skilled tooling professional.

Position Summary

The Apprentice Die Repair Technician will assist with maintaining, inspecting, sharpening, and repairing production dies. Working alongside experienced tooling professionals, you'll gain hands-on experience with precision grinding, die components, and preventive maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate surface grinders to sharpen and repair die components.
  • Inspect punches, buttons, springs, retainers, and other tooling for wear or damage.
  • Assist with die repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Use micrometers and calipers to measure tolerances of ±0.001" to ±0.002".
  • Read basic blueprints and tooling specifications.
  • Complete die repair reports and maintenance documentation.
  • Follow established safety, quality, and housekeeping procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the Tool Room team.

This position focuses on die repair and maintenance, not press teardown or CMM quality approvals.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with precision tooling or machining.
  • Familiarity with surface grinders.
  • Ability to use micrometers and calipers.
  • Basic blueprint reading and shop math skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and excellent attendance.
  • Ability to train on first shift before transitioning to second shift.

Preferred:

  • 1–2 years of die repair experience.
  • Background in bench tooling, manual machining, CNC machining, or surface grinding.
  • Experience with stamping dies and tooling components.

Tool Requirement: Tools will be available during first-shift training. After approximately one month, employees must provide their own Allen wrenches, calipers, and micrometers.

Why Join the Team?

  • $20.00/hour starting pay.
  • Hands-on training with an experienced technician.
  • Opportunity to develop specialized die repair and precision grinding skills.
  • Great entry point for machinists looking to transition into Tool & Die.
  • Long-term career development potential.
