As a key member of Samuel Automation's Tucson team, you work directly with the customer to define and evolve a winning engineering concept for the application. You will accurately budget the labor hours to design and build custom automation, decide on the required materials and prepare a proposal for the system. 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • In partnership with our Sales team, attend customer meetings to understand in depth the automation needs of the customer.
  • Create custom automation solution concepts, detailed internal budgets and write detailed proposals focused on competitive advantages to secure business.
  • Recognize and liaise with various departments to attain and incorporate their feedback for successful execution.
  • Applies knowledge of standard manufacturing processes to achieve effective and efficient designs across industries incorporating the latest in technologies and identify technologies and suppliers that can deliver strategic benefits to the bidding process.
  • Interface through various methods with customers to collect technical details and obtain clarifications for information that is needed for execution later.
  • Interact with third party suppliers to convey requirements, obtain pricing, and understand how lead times affect the opportunity at hand. 
  • Lead technical communications with the customer to present the solution and its benefits, use customer feedback to collaborate with the Sales team and evolve the proposal to receive the project award
  • Be the front facing person to present the won opportunity to the execution team internally in an effective manner relaying all specifics and provide support during the project execution if needed. 
  • Identifies potential technical and commercial risks and discusses with Management ways to mitigate them.
  • Maintains all proposal documentation that can be easily transferred to a Project team when the project is won.
  • Follow all Samuel Automation quote processes and standards.

You’ll Be Great At

  • Strong communication skill and at ease presenting to clients and internal customers.
  • Influence and advise on implementation of new technologies or novel solutions
  • Experience working on a manufacturing environment and designing tooling/equipment 
  • Some of the target customers will be in Spanish-speaking countries. As a result, ability to communicate in technical Spanish will be advantageous. 
  • Understands use of motion, sensors, controls, fluid power, servos, PLC control, cycle time etc. as they relate to automation.

Key Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Design or related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in all the aspects of industrial automation and assembly equipment. 
  • Proficient in SolidWorks 
  • Superior organizational skills 
  • Strong customer relation skills 
  • Proficient in technical writing
  • Disposition to be trained and desire to learn
  • Ability to cross international borders. (Passport required and Driver’s license required)
  • May travel to customer sites to fully assess projects and present to customers from time to time.

Position Location

  • This position can be fully on site or a hybrid (4 days in office/1 days from home) position reporting into our Tucson, Arizona or our Waterloo, Ontario office
  • Remote office setup can be considered for the strongest applicants
