As an Applications Engineer at Emerson, you will partner closely with the sales team to deliver innovative automation solutions to customers across North America. This role is fully remote, with a preferred location in Detroit, MI; Florham Park, NJ; Cleveland, OH; Chicago, IL; or Indianapolis, IN.
In this role, you will work hands‑on with customers and internal teams to solve real‑world challenges and support successful product deployments. You will dive into technical details, address complex problems, and translate insights into clear, compelling guidance on product capabilities, limitations, and best‑fit applications. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will help customers adopt new technologies that improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
Put customers first by understanding their challenges and identifying effective technical solutions
Support customer applications involving pneumatics, fieldbus systems, I/O, and electric actuation
Provide hands‑on support during startup and commissioning of new applications
Create and deliver engaging product and solution demonstrations
Present technical workshops to customers and formal training courses to Emerson teams
Conduct plant tours, site inspections, and customer visits
Interpret pneumatic circuits from schematics and diagrams
Provide on‑site emergency technical support when required
Attend and support tradeshows, industry events, and customer engagements
Assist customers in modernizing from older, legacy products and systems
Write technical articles, application notes, and contribute to the product knowledge base
Serve as a subject matter expert on customer support cases
Design, assemble, test, and simulate systems to diagnose and resolve reported product issues
Collaborate with marketing, product management, engineering, sales, production, and quality teams
Utilize Salesforce.com‑based tools for activity tracking and reporting

For This Role, You Will Need:
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or another STEM field or equivalent practical experience (such as 7+ years of industrial automation experience focused on pneumatic control)
Working knowledge of pneumatic valves, pneumatic actuators, grippers, electric slide actuators, electric grippers, pressure sensors, flow sensors, and proportional regulators
Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Profibus, Modbus TCP/RTU, CANopen, DeviceNet, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and EtherCAT
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time (about one week per month)
A valid U.S. driver’s license
Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
Experience presenting technical concepts to non‑technical audiences
Machine safety or safety control systems certifications or qualifications
Experience working at a systems integrator, particularly in pneumatic or motion control applications
Exposure to stepper motors, linear drives, and electric linear motion control
Experience supporting high‑uptime industrial systems
Familiarity with a broad range of industrial processes
A strong interest or passion for industrial automation

The salary range for this role $76,000 – 120,000 annually, and eligible for performance-based bonus paid quarterly, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities, and experience each candidate brings to the role.
