Job Description:

Norfolk Southern Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, seeks a highly motivated and qualified Technical Project Lead with strong development, analytical and team leadership skills with proficiency in one or more of the following: .NET, Java, or a front-end development framework. This individual will lead a dynamic, Agile project team developing and supporting one of our highly available and mission critical applications.

The successful candidate will possess a positive attitude with excellent communication and analytical skills with a focus on results. This person must also be able to work closely with the business partners and other cross-functional IT teams to ensure efficient system and code design, assist with development, review code, and deliverables are thoroughly unit tested.

As a part of our innovative pricing software development team, you will take part in the development of cutting-edge solutions solving the challenging needs of our business. You will build solutions from the ground up, starting with investigating design approaches, prototyping new solutions, and evaluating technical feasibility. You will be responsible for all aspects of development including design, development, testing, and maintenance of key systems. You will work in a dynamic environment to deliver a forward-looking user experience while maintaining high-quality software. As a Project Lead you will make decisions on projects in consultation with leadership, assign projects/tasks, and lead a small team of 4-6 consisting of developers, Scrum Master, and BA.   • Provide day-to-day team leadership giving direction on tasks, helping to remove blockers and resolve issues, assist with balancing workload as needed to ensure sprint delivery of committed items.
  • Work with the Product Owners to create a comprehensive design based on business needs.
  • Mentor less experienced developers on coding and IT best practices and conduct code reviews to ensure high quality code.
  • Effectively communicate with end-users, co-workers, managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and attention to detail during daily operations.
  • Deliver innovative, engaging web applications using the latest software technologies.
  • Work with outside vendors and external teams to collect and confirm business and technical requirements.
  • Continuously improve and enforce best practices, coding, and UI/UX standards.
  • Participate in talent acquisition to include reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, new member onboarding.



  • 6+ years of work experience with web application technologies: Java, .NET or front-end javascript technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, enterprise systems, and asynchronous architectures.
  • Deep understanding of web services software architecture and design (REST/SOAP), including security-based implementations.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and front-end frameworks.
  • Experience with data modeling and database programming skills (MS SQL Server).
  • Familiarity with infrastructure systems (servers, systems administration, and UNIX/Linux scripting skills) a plus.
  • Understanding of networks, firewalls, load balancers and concepts with the ability to provide requirements to infrastructure team as well as provide troubleshooting assistance.
  • Working experience with agile methodologies (Scrum).
  • Working experience with UML and design patterns.
  • Working knowledge of continuous integration tools: Jenkins, Nexus, JUnit, SonarQube, Maven, Gradle, Ant, SVN, GIT.
  • Working experience with RedHat OpenShift environment.
  • Proven ability to build, manage and foster a team-oriented environment.
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
  • Desire to work in an information systems environment.
