Chemours is seeking an R&D Analytical GCMS Scientist to join our growing Chemours Leveraged Analytical team! This position will report directly to the Analytical Technology Manager at our Newark, DE location.
The Chemours Leveraged Analytical team is seeking to engage an R&D Analytical GCMS Scientist with experience in trace level targeted analysis, method development, calibration standard preparation, and reporting of business-critical data. This opportunity is at the Chemours Discovery Hub in Newark, DE. The leveraged analytical team is homed in the Technology organization of the Advanced Performance Materials platform, and we support all Chemours business units. The successful candidate will be expected to lead analytical programs utilizing GCMS, Pyrolysis, and SPME technologies to deliver critical data that is used to validate corporate progress toward Sustainability goals. A scientist in this position will also be expected to drive strategic decisions in this area of work and communicate effectively with both analytical colleagues and Chemours leadership. The successful candidate will report to the Technology Manager of the Leveraged Analytical organization.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Targeted GCMS analysis of trace level fluorinated compounds
Execute analytical methods for the analysis of wide range of analytes in variety of sample matrices including preparation, analysis, and data interpretation.
Identification and quantitation of various compounds utilizing GCMS to ensure that customer needs are met in a safe, timely, and effective manner.
Sample preparation of wide variety of research, process, and product samples using techniques including, but not limited to, solid phase extraction, chemical derivatization, pyrolysis, headspace sampling, and liquid-liquid extractions.
Ensure that analytical methods and results are accurate, properly documented and effectively communicated.
Primary responsibility for laboratory instruments, including the maintenance and repair of those instruments.
Procure and validate standards and certificates of analysis for standards.
Method development/continuous improvement
Keep up to date on methods and ways to improve current methods
Verification of method detection limits through MDL studies
Implementation and adaptation of established and emerging analytical methods
Managing of projects in collaboration with R&D, operations, technical services, marketing, and regulatory affairs.
Interact with researchers, members of the involved business teams to understand their requests and contribute to planning of upcoming work.
Safely handle hazardous materials – willingness to do so as well as adherence to the Chemours safety principles is a must.
Function in a multitasking environment with minimal supervision.
Maintain appropriate documentation via laboratory notebook.
Independently formulate work plans and manage daily workflow.
Act as a technical resource for the leveraged analytical team.
The following is required for this role:
B.S. in Chemistry or equivalent
2-4 years of experience with GCMS
Experience with state-of-the-art GCMS hardware and software
Ability to work safely with high-hazard materials
Ability to communicate results clearly to colleagues
The following is preferred for this role:
Experience with solid phase extraction
Experience with targeted GCMS analysis of product, process, and environmental samples
