This position will be required to perform welding work when necessary. However, when weld work is unavailable the work available will be track labor. A combination of welding and track work will make up the full-time position.

Job Title: Railroad Track Laborer

Job Summary:
We are seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our team as Railroad Track Laborers. This role involves repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining railroad tracks, requiring physical strength, endurance, and attention to safety. Ideal candidates will have experience with heavy labor and a commitment to adhering to safety regulations in a challenging outdoor work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Track Maintenance & Repair:

    • Repair and rebuild railroad tracks using hand tools.
    • Remove and replace ties, drive and pull spikes, and shovel ballast.
    • Repair and replace rails, apply rail anchors, and align tie plates.
    • Sweep ballast and maintain switches for proper operation.
  • Equipment Handling:

    • Load, unload, and move equipment and materials weighing 50–100 lbs.
    • Operate tools such as hydraulic hammers, air wrenches, rail drills, and rail saws.
    • Remove and install ties and rails with assistance.
  • Safety & Inspection:

    • Adhere to company and industry safety protocols, including wearing required protective gear.
    • Monitor and identify potential track issues such as broken rails, defective switches, or obstructions.
    • Perform pre-work inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Trackbed Maintenance:

    • Remove and replace ballast and tamp ballast as needed.
    • Assist with unloading ballast from ballast cars.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor in strenuous conditions.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to read and comprehend instructions.
  • Team-oriented, with the ability to build positive relationships and resolve conflicts.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Preferred:

  • Experience operating construction or farm equipment.
  • At least 1 year of Railroad Maintenance of Way work experience.
  • Welding experience or certification.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Work Environment & Conditions:

  • Extensive walking on uneven surfaces; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions, including rural and remote locations.
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • Must work safely around large equipment such as locomotives, railcars, and cranes.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/carry 25 lbs. frequently, 50 lbs. occasionally, and up to 75 lbs. infrequently.
  • Good balance, eye-hand coordination, and flexibility for maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work while standing for extended periods and adapt to changing conditions.
