About the Role

We have an opportunity for an experienced and safety-focused mining leader to join our Huntly operations as Alternate Quarry Manager. Reporting to the Quarry Manager, this role provides operational leadership, statutory relief coverage and support across the safe, efficient and environmentally responsible extraction of bauxite within Huntly mining operations.

Offered on a back-to-back 8 days on, 6 days off roster, this role plays a critical part in supporting operational performance across safety, production, cost, quality, rehabilitation, environmental and ESG objectives, while maintaining compliance with applicable legislation, Alcoa standards, licence conditions and community commitments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing statutory leadership as the appointed Alternate Quarry Manager and Alternate Site Senior Executive when required.

  • Ensuring critical risk management controls are in place across isolation and energy control, traffic management, fatigue, drilling and blasting, and contractor management.

  • Supporting safe and efficient daily mining operations, including pit control, dig compliance, haul route design, drill and blast reviews, and explosives management practices.

  • Coaching frontline leaders in visible felt leadership, continuous improvement and operational discipline.

  • Supporting environmental, heritage and community obligations, including clearing permits, environmental limits, rehabilitation obligations and positive relationships with local stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

  • Working closely with maintenance teams to support safe asset management, defect management and equipment reliability across mining operations

What you can bring to the role

To be successful in this role, you will be a safety-first operational leader with statutory credibility, strong communication skills and a passion for operational excellence. You will be confident leading through collaboration, influencing stakeholders and supporting large open-cut mining teams to improve productivity while maintaining a strong focus on risk.

You will also bring:

  • WA-recognised unrestricted Quarry Manager statutory qualification.

  • Extensive experience in a frontline leadership role in a large-scale open-cut mining, including exposure to drill and blast, load and haul, and mine production processes.

  • Demonstrated experience in risk management, critical control verification and incident investigation, such as ICAM or equivalent methodology.

  • Experience working within complex operational environments with regulatory, environmental, cultural heritage and community obligations.

  • A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geology or a related discipline will be highly regarded.

  • Schedule 26 - Statutory Supervisor accreditation required

About the Location

Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world’s second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa’s Pinjarra alumina refinery. Bauxite ore from Alcoa’s Huntly and Willowdale mines helps to produce almost half of Australia’s alumina and approximately 19 per cent of Australia’s aluminium.
