Job Summary:

As a member of the department operating team, individual is responsible for performing job duties of the Machining Department which focuses on operating all machines that are CNC and Non-CNC as a journeyman and producing a high quality product with close tolerances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the continuous improvement process by making suggestions to Supervisors and Leads.
  • Ensures that all housekeeping requirements are met.
  • Individual must perform to Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Procedures to maintain material flow to internal and external customers.
  • Performs under minimal general guidance/direction of a machine shop Lead, to repair or make new parts by using various precision measuring devices, hand tools and all machining equipment required, with either verbal or written instructions.
  • Works from a variety of sketches, blue prints, drawings and SOP’s when available and makes recommendations to alterations or improve the parts or process being worked on.
  • Operates multiple machines simultaneously and recognizes operational irregularities on equipment or processes, accurately determines the cause and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to read, understand, and create basic G code programs.
  • Shares the responsibility with the Lead Machinist in the Machine Shop for providing training to other department personnel, including safety.
  • Assumes duties of the Lead Machinist in the Machine Shop when machine shop lead is absent and is required to work alone sometimes.
  • Handles and disposes of solid or liquid waste according to the plant emergency procedures.
  • Performs basic maintenance to all equipment within the machine shop.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Individual must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have completed eight years of industrial machine shop work as a Machinist or a Materion approved four year apprentice program.
  • Individual must be able to independently analyze jobs and determine the most efficient way of completing the work.
  • Individuals are required to lift heavy materials and are on their feet most of the day.
  • Required to subscribe to any and all training and/or associated competency assessment activities that have been determined to maintain or improve the efficiency of personnel in respective trade.
  • Must be able to work independently or as a member of a team to meet demands.
  • Requires that the machinist be proficient in both shops and all equipment and may move from one to the other on a daily basis depending on the machines required to complete a job.
  • Individual must be able to do basic mechanical repairs to equipment under the guidance of a Lead.
  • Must possess basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Office products and email.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical ability.
  • Must have good verbal and written skills.
  • Must have knowledge of basic math skills.
  • Must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to provide customer service.


The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
