This position is for an Airframe Structure Design Engineer, for Airlift Mobility & Maritime Missions (AMMM). Position requires advanced understanding of product and technical disciplines to fully assess and solve complex engineering and production issues. Position requires excellent communication skills to both help develop subordinate engineers and to communicate technical issues/concerns with other disciplines.

Candidate will have responsibility over the Design of structural detail parts, assemblies, and installations, as well as systems installations for peculiar versions of C-130, C-5, P-3 and S-3 aircraft. This position is in the C-130J Airframe Design team working on a number of customer mods that include working on various complex designs with vendor coordination. Position also supports various special projects requiring detail CATIA V5 modeling. Position is responsible for reviewing customer, aircraft level, system level, and design level reqmts to understand what the design configuration needs to be; engineer will take greater ownership to pull reqmts from other teams verifying them and bringing them back to the team.
Engineer shall be responsible for:
(1) Employee will lead and direct the design work on several projects while still acting as the technical expert within the design team. Employee will drive design solutions with little direction. Ensures that the wiring/avionics and VSS design inputs are understood at the earliest point in the design process consistently ensuring that system and customer reqmts are being met. Must coordinate with mfg as necessary to ensure the design is producible and meets manufacturability reqmts. Responsible for holding periodic design reviews and coordinating updates as the design matures. Responsible for the dwg coordination and signoff making sure that the design meets cost, schedule and performance for engineers under their leadership.
(2) Responsible for development of layouts, preparation of engineering drawings, planning, scheduling, and coordination of activities with affected organizations,
(3) This position requires engineers to use their knowledge of configuration management, drafting/drawing conventions, and aerospace specifications and procedures to develop a wide myriad of design solutions to meet all customer requirements in any given situation. The issues encountered can be related to any facet of a program from design development, fabrication, assembly, flight test, and in service, as well as post-delivery modifications. Engineers in this position are expected to work with only minimal direct supervision and drive design solutions with input from the IPT. Many of the issues faced in this position can lead to a work stoppage on the Production Floor if not properly handled.
(4) Help in the preparation of work statements, quotes and (engineering design analyses) EDAs to support customer requirements, product improvements and cost reductions, Earned Value Management reporting and
(5) support of manufacturing operations and customers in resolving technical problems related to the aircraft structure and systems.
Candidate must be able to coordinate efforts with progressively less supervision across a wide range of functional organizations, such as Planning, Tooling, Stress, Materials & Processes (M&P), Reliability and Maintainability (R&M), Materiel, Flight Sciences, Test, Manufacturing, and other Design Product Focus Teams (PFTs) to ensure that designs meet customer and derived requirements.
Some travel and overtime may be required. Ideal Candidate would have aerospace design experience with knowledge of configuration management techniques, drafting/drawing conventions, and aerospace specifications and procedures.

Basic Qualifications

--BS degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering

--9 years minimum Aircraft or related Design/Test/Support experience

--Experience in CAD System ( i.e CATIA V4/V5, CCD, NX)

--Requires an Interim Secret Clearance to be considered

Desired skills

--C-130, C-5, P-3, and/or S-3 experience --Production Line support experience
--Familiarity with mod design,
--Excellent communication, presentation, people and team skills.
--Proven history of strong work habits and a positive attitude.
--familiar with Earned Value Management techniques and associated reporting for cost and schedule status

Ability to work remotely

Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Pay Rate:
In compliance with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $102,400 - $170,600 . Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and business considerations when extending an offer.
