The Airframe and Powerplant Supervisor I is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the A&P department and avionics technicians, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant aircraft maintenance in support of company and customer operations. This role provides leadership, directs maintenance and inspection activities, manages staffing and training, and serves as a key liaison between employees, site leadership, the Program Office, and customer representatives to ensure seamless operations and program success.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Leadership & Operations Management
- Provides day-to-day leadership and direction to assigned A&P staff, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments, including CONUS/OCONUS deployment in support of company and customer operations.
- Oversees the progress and performance of deployed technicians, providing guidance, feedback, and support as required.
- Enforces and oversees the implementation of company policies, procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Identifies issues affecting maintenance, manning, or operations and leads the development of solutions that align with organizational goals while minimizing operational impact.
- Maintains a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information and ensures all activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and obligations.
Maintenance, Inspection & Technical Oversight
- Directs and/or performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft and engine maintenance, inspections, and repairs in accordance with company procedures and applicable FAA, government, and customer technical orders.
- Independently troubleshoots and resolves moderately complex aircraft, engine, and propulsion system issues; trains specialists in troubleshooting techniques.
- Determines feasibility of repair versus replacement and coordinates with leadership and logistics as needed.
- Inspects powerplant and related components at regular intervals and repairs fuel/oil leaks and engine problems as required; may remove and replace airframe and/or engine components.
- Reviews aircraft records to ensure all required maintenance, inspections, and documentation are accurate and complete.
- May inspect, test, maintain, and operate ground support equipment and perform/evaluate launch and recovery tasks (including inspections, operational checks, payload installation, and weight and balance checks).
- Establishes and modifies operational procedures to improve maintainability, efficiency, and reliability of aircraft and systems.
- Provides frequent feedback to supervisors and management on technical matters, issues, risks, and recommended solutions.
Training, Development & Program Support
- Develops, implements, and maintains training programs and procedures for assigned personnel, ensuring training requirements are met and documented.
- Partners with training and deployment support staff to refine training expectations, processes, and needs, improving the overall training framework.
- Fosters and maintains strong relationships with training instructors, site leads, and management through regular communication and site visits.
- Supports the development, launch, and sustainment of on-the-job training (OJT) and other training initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance program value.
- Assists in the development, verification, and review of procedures, technical manuals, job protocols, and work instructions to improve work quality, training, and recordkeeping.
People Management, Hiring & Employee Support
- Participates in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of personnel to ensure availability of required professional talent.
- May act as hiring manager, working cross-functionally with Site Leads, the Program Office, Talent Acquisition, Sourcing, HR, and customer representatives to identify and select qualified candidates.
- Coordinates and supports interviews and hiring decisions; helps ensure clear expectations are communicated to new hires.
- Advocates for equitable and competitive employee compensation to support retention and maintain program competitiveness.
- Provides regular performance feedback and recognition (e.g., awards, spotlights, and other acknowledgments) to reinforce exceptional performance and engagement.
- Supports employees during incidents or injuries, coordinating with workers’ compensation, operations centers, and family members as required, and contributing to the development and implementation of emergency response procedures (e.g., MERPs).
Program Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serves as a key liaison between A&P staff, Site Leads, the Program Office, logistics, and customer representatives to foster collaboration, strengthen relationships, and drive effective communication.
- Collaborates with Site Leads, Logistics, and customer supervisors to coordinate backfill and FLEX support to maintain operational continuity.
- Represents the organization with outside vendors and customers regarding maintenance, inspection, or repair activities.
- Provides feedback to operations and support centers to improve communication, responsiveness, and overall support.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree and six or more years of complex experience in aircraft maintenance. Additional professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
- Must demonstrate a strong working knowledge and understanding of FAA aircraft and engine maintenance and repair concepts, regulations and practices as well as a mechanics license.
- Must have leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines and milestones.
- The ability to resolve moderately complex issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report and present findings. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees, including providing direction to and scheduling work of assigned staff.
- Good computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
