**Position Overview
**
The Aerospace Welder operates equipment that uses heat to join metal parts together in the manufacturing of aerospace components and products, ranging from airplanes to space shuttles. This role is crucial in ensuring the structural integrity and safety of aerospace products.
**Key Responsibilities
**
Read and interpret blueprints for welding projects
Source and measure materials according to project specifications
Perform welding operations using appropriate techniques and materials
Conduct quality checks to ensure finished work meets blueprint tolerances
Complete and pass various welding certification tests
Operate conventional and precision measuring instruments
Perform process inspection, certification, and documentation
Maintain welding equipment through routine maintenance activities
Conduct grinding and finishing operations using manual and power tools
Perform routine maintenance on grinding equipment
**Required Qualifications
**
Completion of Vocational school / Machine Trade school welding course
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Proficiency in various welding techniques relevant to aerospace manufacturing
Basic math skills and understanding of mechanical principles used in sheet metal fabrication
Ability to use measuring instruments to produce parts within specified tolerances
Capability to perform unit conversions, including metric conversions
**Preferred Qualifications
**
High School Diploma or GED
Previous experience in aerospace or related manufacturing industry
Additional certifications in specialized welding techniques

**Physical Requirements
**
Ability to stand for up to two or three hours continuously
Occasional sitting, walking, climbing stairs, bending, and stooping
Capable of reaching and grasping parts repeatedly throughout the day
Ability to lift 45lbs. minimum and up to 60lbs. individually, and up to 120lbs. in a "buddy" lift
Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
**Work Environment
**
Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, heat, cold, solvents, and electrical energy
Welding environment requiring specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, and extremes of heat or cold
Semi-close proximity work with other employees
Operation of specialized welding equipment and tools (specific machines and equipment to be listed separately)
Some overtime may be required based on business needs
