Job Description:

This is a dual role manager and engineer position. It requires a leader that can staff, develop, and drive a team of both engineers and designers to accomplish program work. This individual will also apply mechanical engineering principles to design and maintain the company's FOS product lines during new product design, development, and sustain production across a multidisciplinary team. This individual must be able to work within established design guidelines to ensure products meet or exceed customer and industry specifications. In addition, this role supports production of existing products, working with manufacturing and quality to troubleshoot issues, document changes, and adhere to AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards.

Essential Functions:

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and designers

Support hiring, workforce planning, and performance management

Foster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous improvement culture

Provide inputs (material and labor estimates, technical content) for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)

Define, maintain, and improve the department’s development processes and best practices

Serve as lead mechanical engineer, responsible for design integrity and product performance and compliance

Drive mechanical design decisions across new product development and legacy product support

Develop and refine mechanical designs in accordance with internal standards and customer specifications

Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and sound engineering principles to ensure manufacturability and performance

Perform engineering calculations and collaborate with analysts to validate designs (FEA, thermal, shock/vibration)

Define and execute design verification strategies (shock, vibration, thermal, acceleration, etc.)

Prepare and present materials for internal and customer design reviews

Ensure compliance with applicable industry, customer, and regulatory standards

Support production by troubleshooting issues, implementing design updates, and improving processes

Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve nonconformances and drive corrective actions

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance which requires you to be a U.S. Citizen

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

Professional experience using CAD software such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, NX etc

Professional experience with GD&T application and interpretation according to ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100

Professional experience with dimensional stack-up/tolerance analysis

Preferred Additional Skills:

Strong fundamentals in mechanics, vibration, fatigue, and thermal concepts

Experience with DFMA and manufacturing processes

Familiarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems and working in a regulated environment

Experience with FEA tools and test validation methods

Advanced degree (MS) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

An active DOW Secret Security Clearance
