Evonik’s products are regulated by many laws where a high level of technical knowledge is needed to ensure compliance. The role of this position is to understand the pertinent legal requirements that apply and work with Evonik’s business and service units and external organizations such as regulators to ensure compliance and business continuity taking into account the simultaneous need for the company to accomplish these goals in a cost effective manner. This position is primarily responsible for representing Evonik in advocacy efforts, and in addition supports a broad array of compliance activities in the North American region. Inclusive of these activities are the Product Stewardship compliance audits of Evonik business lines and sites, compliance reporting for the region, implementation of our management systems, tracking of emerging laws and communicating the impact analysis to appropriate personnel in the company. The position interfaces with a large contingent of internal and external customers on a regular basis including Business Line contacts within the region and globally. Advocacy and auditing efforts include interacting, as needed, with EH&S, Business, Technology, and Manufacturing. As such, the position requires the individual to have an ability to communicate and work within a diverse business environment and have knowledge of compliance with global product safety regulations.


  • Serve in a variety of roles in the ESHQ audit program, specifically the PSRA site and business line audit program. This position will lead some audits and serve as a supporting member in others. Maintain knowledge and skills to support ISO 9001, ISO 14001, RC14001, and Responsible Care® (RC). Provide training and guidance to new team members.

  • Understand Evonik business needs and represent those company needs to regulatory agencies, trade associations and customers as relevant to the position. Develop content for Business Lines to better understand the impact of advocacy efforts and deliver this content through regular communication. Ensure sharing of work products with global Evonik colleagues. Engagement through committees in ACC, ACI, SEHSC, SOCMA and others as determined to be relevant are included.

  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies developed by Evonik Research Development & Innovation groups and the impact to maintain regulatory compliance to meet business strategies. Investigate and benchmark industry groups supporting these new technologies to determine Evonik’s potential participation.

  • Develops, maintains, and implements workflows, training and guidance documents to ensure compliance with Product Stewardship requirements. Provide regional regulatory compliance support. Performs other duties relating to compliance with Product Stewardship activities. Serve in a variety of support roles for Department Process Expert Circles, i.e. Transportation, Product Stewardship Americas, Food Safety, etc.

  • This position anticipates chemistry, regulatory, and compliance issues that affect the business and possess general product safety and chemical regulatory affairs knowledge. They should have customer focus and enterprise intelligence. They will lead activities as a department expert. It is expected that this person will work collaboratively with the other Managers and Director to ensure the needs of PRS clients are satisfied. Most activities for this position will be either hands-on or tactical but there will be occasional needs to support the Director on strategic issues. Analytical thinking and computer skills should address organizational regulatory situations. Key activities will include managing compliance for new and existing products to satisfy internal and external customer’s business needs and regulatory requirements, and, overseeing some activities under advocacy. The position also supports the continuing implementation of the Responsible Care 14001 Management System. This includes the key values related to Product Stewardship and safe management of chemicals.


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant Science field such as toxicology, chemistry, bio- chemistry or related technical field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, including employment with a multi-national chemical manufacturer/supplier. Minimum 5 years of experience within a global regulatory/toxicological department.

  • Skills: Ideally a combination of excellent interpersonal and professional speaking and technical writing.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of global chemical-control regulations. Functional knowledge of the Toxic Substances Control Act, Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act, Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act, and REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) required.

  • Experience in reading, understanding, and interpreting global regulatory requirements as related to business support. Hands-on experience in SAP EHS Module required. Demonstrated ability to analyze/data-mine databases in SAP.

  • Travel both domestically and international
