Job Overview:
Job Title: Advanced Technology Manufacturing Engineer
Reports to: Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Job Role/Summary:
The Advanced Technology Manufacturing Engineer focuses on the development of new processes and manufacturing technologies to advance capabilities in manufacturing operations, and in support of the development of new product technologies.
Responsible for evaluating and recommending new equipment and processes, performing feasibility studies, DOE studies, and capability studies to develop the appropriate process parameters. Thoroughly document the analysis and recommendations for implementation in production.
Assist in the development and implementation of the advanced manufacturing technology plan and identify manufacturing technology that enables Grote Industries to continue to be the global leader and preeminent business partner for innovative visibility solutions.
Job Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
· Identify new manufacturing methods/technologies needed to maintain Grote’s competitive advantage and leadership in vehicle lighting
· Identify Processes/Equipment/Tooling necessary to implement new technologies in Production
· Prepare samples for study and develop testing protocols
· Collect, record, and transcribe data from process equipment
· Communicate process and test data, analysis, and conclusions via coherent and intuitive reports for review by operations, engineering, and management
· Develop cost and resource requirements for the implementation of new equipment/processes
· Develop preliminary Process Flows and PFMEAs with critical process inputs, critical process outputs, and critical process control methods identified
· Complete DOE and capability studies demonstrating the ability of proposed equipment to meet and maintain critical design/process characteristics
· Purchase new manufacturing technology and equipment and assist in its implementation
· Develop cost-effective and reliable production processes
· Troubleshoot process issues and develop innovative solutions
· Maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs and changeovers
· Improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards
· Support production objectives for equipment uptime and yield
· Participate in safety incident investigations and provide analysis and corrective action suggestions
· Advise and implement corrective actions to Internal and Customer Concerns
· Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
Secondary Functions:
· Communicate and negotiate with outside equipment and material vendors.
Other Functions:
· Required to follow any other instructions and perform any other duties as requested by supervisor.
Education, Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses:
Degree or equivalent experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science discipline required
· Six Sigma Certification required
· Advanced degree in Engineering preferred
Years of experience:
· Minimum of 10 years of experience designing and optimizing automated manufacturing processes
Other requirements:
· Must successfully pass any pre-screening test(s)
· Good attendance and safety record
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Preferred Knowledge in:
· Electrical Circuits and Electronics
· Electrical/Electronic component solder materials, processes, and technology
· Material processing and equipment relative to thin film manufacturing and/or LED processing
· SMT technology and processing
· Lamination technology and processing
· Automotive Lighting Industry
· PLC Programming and automation equipment
· Robotics
· DFMEAs and PFMEAs, and their use in guiding the development of process controls in the assembly process

· Multiple Six Sigma Black Belt projects
· Lean Manufacturing
· Formal problem solving techniques (ex. 5 whys, 8-D, Red X, DMAIC, Plan-Do-Check-Act)
Other:
· Must be proficient in use of a personal computer including Microsoft Office Suite and Statistical Analysis software like Minitab
