Job Summary
Develop a sourcing strategy and manage a launching program for mechanical components. The focus is to effectively execute the strategy to achieve continuous reduction of material costs within the Inter-Americas Automotive Divisions and to efficiently manage the program to meet our customer event time line with the objective is to ensure that the Inter-Americas Automotive Divisions has access to World Class suppliers from a quality, delivery and innovation perspective.
Responsible: For Supplier Development and QCDESTR control in the Inter Americas (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Environment, Services, Technology and Risk); To assist with existing and new program safety launch, a dynamic management of the Nidec group purchasing linkage and functions is required to attain effective cost reductions and inventories. Using an understanding of the OEM/Tier 1 Automotive industry and World Class purchasing methods, the incumbent will format and implement supply strategy to actively support the business and prepare the supply base for future growth. Keeping abreast with the latest technology, processes and specialty improvements in the global market is imperative to remaining competitive and achieving customer satisfaction.
As Advanced Purchasing Specialist (Mechanical), will be assigned to Mechanical Components, including molding, stamping, die casting, rubber, assemble parts, packaging, and miscellaneous. It does not include PCB and electronic components. The incumbent will be assigned to Purchasing Program Management, as well as Commodity Management.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop long term supply commodity strategies and implementation tactics.
- Lead Commodity strategy reviews at the review meetings.
- Overall sourcing, negotiation and procurement of raw material/components with goal to balance quality, price, delivery and service in order to meet business targets and be in conformance to purchasing policies and procedures.
- Working with the Supplier Quality function and Advanced Purchasing to develop, implement and maintain a supplier evaluation system to ensure continuous supplier improvement is attained.
- Develop and maintain supplier profiles and individual supplier strategies addressing both commercial and technical issues.
- Ensure all relevant quality and manufacturing issues are addressed in a timely fashion with the suppliers and appropriate NIDEC Members in drawing design review meetings.
- Prepare the Purchasing Budget and standard costs for approval for the Business Budgeting process.
- Support total cost of procurement analysis including logistics, cost of quality and total landed cost consideration.
- Manage the methods and timing of supplier communications and system implementations with the supplier base. Ensure World-Class methods and techniques are targeted to NIDEC suppliers.
- Assist in Electronic supplier concerns as it relates to delivery, cost, etc.
- Ensure appropriate controls are established and maintained for NIDEC owned tools.
- Lead high level meetings with Supplier Organization. Develop and implement appropriate strategic agendas and coordinate meeting preparation process.
- Coordinate appropriate VA/VE and Commercial Negotiation status meetings. Lead Nidec in development and execution of appropriate Material Cost Management Programs.
- Address short and long term raw material commodity price issues. Recommend necessary actions to Nidec Management.
- Ensure that all Inter-Americas Automotive communications to its suppliers are regular, current, accurate and open.
- Maintain the appropriate level of training for staff to ensure in compliance. Review and implement changes to the Procedures when necessary.
- Supports / Implements the ISO14001 Environmental Policy as it pertains to work activities.
Experience
- 5+ years’ Senior Sourcing (Commodities) experience within Automotive (plus high preference in automotive electronics).
- 5+ years’ high volume, high speed automotive or manufacturing environment (OEM/Tier I) experience.
- Excellent time management with detailed coordination skills
- Advanced knowledge of automotive/process/language/protocols – APQP
- Advanced analytical skills/root cause analysis/ data driven decision skills
- Advanced presentation skills with subordinates and management
- Advanced negotiation skills
- Up-to-date on all ISO/IATF 16949 procedures for compliance purposes.
- Prior work within the automotive industry is highly preferred.
- Low cost country sourcing experience.
- Professional and credible in the approach to problem resolution.
- eSourcing and ERP (Mfg/Pro [QAD]) experience.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Mechanical Component Engineering, or related Business field
Certifications:
- CPP, PMAC certification in progress or achieved preferred
