Job description:

The Materials and Processes Engineering (MPE) organization is seeking highly motivated candidates for a Senior Principal Engineering position within the Advanced Materials organization to lead research, development, validation, and implementation of special technology materials with a focus on high temperature exhaust system materials for state-of-the-art jet engine applications.

The preferred candidate will work closely with internal module center and engineering customers to define materials needs and requirements, and lead material development programs from initial proof of concept through production implementation. The candidate will also work with external government customers to establish and lead appropriate contract opportunities.

The candidate will become a technology leader with responsibilities that include generation of innovative material / process solutions to meet critical engine needs, effective planning and leadership of internal development programs and government contracts, mentoring of junior engineers/staff, and continuous development of standard work and best practices related to special technology materials development and implementation. The preferred candidate will work as part of a cohesive and dedicated team of engineers and technicians responsible for the development of the referenced materials.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B. S. in Materials Science (or related field of study).
  • 10+ years relevant experience (7+ years with an advanced degree) in areas such as ceramics, ceramic matrix composites, materials development, the identification/implementation of novel process and manufacturing solutions associated with ceramic materials, and mechanical and electromagnetic property testing.
  • Candidate must hold or be eligible for a US DOD Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An Advanced Degree in Materials Science or related field of study a plus
  • Additional experience in high temperature coatings is desirable
  • Knowledge of oxide-based advanced ceramics and/or composites
  • Interest in developing, marketing, and securing funding for innovative R&D efforts
  • Experience in managing project schedule and budget
