Under the direction of and reporting to Manager, Global Advanced Manufacturing Technology, develop and implement sustainable, robust and reliable complex manufacturing processes to achieve aggressive cost, quality and throughput goals and objectives.
Role Summary:
This position works in a team environment and uses engineering expertise and abilities to contribute to the development and manufacturing of electric power tool motors and batteries. Daily responsibilities will focus on hands‑on laser welding process development, including running trials, analyzing weld performance, adjusting process parameters, and collaborating with design teams to translate early concepts into stable production processes. The role will also work directly with and support global site manufacturing teams to ensure smooth integration of new processes into production.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop innovative solutions; implement sustainable, robust and reliable complex manufacturing processes
Work with Platform Development & NPD Design Engineers to evaluate and advise product design for optimized manufacturability
Partner with global advanced manufacturing teams through virtual and on‑site engagement to support manufacturing process and equipment needs
Utilize prototyping methods to develop and prepare engineering samples for evaluation and testing
Perform a variety of calculation and software aided analyses to prove process reliability, capability and sustainability
Research and evaluate new technologies and breakthrough processes to accelerate competitive manufacturing advantage
Work with and lead development with equipment suppliers to deliver custom processing solutions to achieve goals and objectives
Frame what-if scenarios to find best total cost solution with financial impacts with emphasis on delivery timelines
Lead manufacturing projects, providing direction, guidance and engineering expertise to team members
Facilitate project flow involving regular contact with engineering, manufacturing, and other cross functional teams when necessary
Candidate Requirements:
Must haves:
Knowledge and experience in production manufacturing assembly processes
Ability to generate clear manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process specifications, and validation reports
Strong emphasis on ability and drive to learn and retain new technical material
Excellent verbal and written communication to make formal presentations regarding project status to team and management
Ability to manage and track multiple project schedules simultaneously
Excellent interpersonal skills to work in a team environment and challenge status quo with respect to driving the best solutions for the business
Ability to be interactive "hands on" with each upcoming engineering project
Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally for developmental studies, production support, and machine or concept evaluations
Estimated yearly travel: 20-30%
Most trips will be 1-2 week with possibilities of weekend travel
Advanced computer knowledge and skills in MS Office and SolidWorks/AutoCAD/NX
Nice to haves:
Exposure to welding processes (laser, MIG, TIG, or equivalent)
Familiarity with data‑acquisition tools, inspection equipment, or process monitoring systems (vision systems, sensors, or metrology tools)
Experience with fixture and gaging design, utilizing 3D CAD software
Exposure to automation, robotics, or industrial controls concepts
Basic understanding of manufacturing safety principles, including machine guarding, PPE, and risk reduction strategies
Specialty skills in new process development, troubleshooting, and RCA
Strong analytical skills, knowledge, and experience in process evaluation tools: Design of Experiments (DOE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), PFMEA, DFMEA, statistical data analysis, risk analysis, flow layout and other related engineering tools
Education and Experience Requirements:
B.S. Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Materials, or Industrial Engineering with 0-3 years Manufacturing Engineering experience required (including internships/co-ops)
