Job Overview:

As a Setup Technician III at MacLean-Fogg, you will lead the setup, installation, and precision calibration of complex production equipment—especially multi-spindle and Acme screw machines that drive our manufacturing performance. You will mentor technicians, solve advanced technical challenges, and directly contribute to the quality and efficiency that our customers rely on.

Job Details

  • **Position Type: **Full-Time/Hourly (Non-Exempt)
  • **Pay Range: **$30–$37 per hour, based on skills and experience
  • **Work Location: **Onsite – Plymouth, MI 48170
  • **Shift: **3:00 PM – 1:30 AM (2nd Shift)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the setup, installation, and precision calibration of Acme screw machines and other complex production equipment.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting on multi-spindle machinery, resolving complex mechanical and operational issues.
  • Optimize machine performance by collaborating with engineering, quality, and operations teams.
  • Conduct detailed inspections and tests to identify issues early and prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Implement corrective actions and drive preventive maintenance strategies to boost equipment reliability.
  • Review blueprints, engineering specs, and shop orders to determine optimal machine setup and sequencing.
  • Mentor junior technicians and promote best practices for safe and efficient setups.
  • Support material handling and machine preparation using powered industrial vehicles.
  • Follow all safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Perform additional duties that support production and operational goals.

Skills/Competencies

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with advanced troubleshooting skills on Acme screw machines or similar equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and tooling requirements.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to mentor and collaborate across teams.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality and precision.
  • Strong focus on safety and adherence to all protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and lead complex setups with minimal supervision.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to use hand tools and precision measurement instruments.

Qualifications (Required)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, including equipment setup.
  • Proven experience setting up and maintaining Acme screw machines or other multi-spindle automatic screw machines.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Technical coursework or certifications in industrial technology, mechanical systems, or machine tool operation.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement or machine optimization initiatives.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and push/pull up to 30 pounds repeatedly.
  • Ability to work in noisy manufacturing environments.
  • Manual dexterity to handle small parts and precision components.
