Position Overview: The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the company’s day-to-day accounting operations with a strong emphasis on cost accounting, COGS accuracy, and actionable financial insight for management. This role goes beyond reporting historical results and focuses on understanding what is driving profitability, margins, and cash, and clearly communicating that information to operational and executive leadership.
The Accounting Manager owns the integrity of financial data, develops disciplined financial processes, and provides leadership with clear visibility into cost structure, pricing, and production efficiency.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Hands-on finance leadership role emphasizing cost accounting, COGS management, and detailed margin analysis
- Owns the accuracy, integrity, and insightful interpretation of COGS across direct materials, labor, and overhead allocations
- Delivers clear, data-driven explanations of margin variances by product line, customer segment, and production activity
- Translates complex financial data into practical, actionable insights for executive and operational leadership
- Collaborates closely with operations and procurement teams to identify cost drivers, investigate variances, and evaluate trade-offs
- Supports strategic pricing decisions through robust margin and cost analysis
- Leads the full accounting function, overseeing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Maintains robust internal controls, promotes financial discipline, and ensures full regulatory and GAAP compliance
- Supports leadership with financial data and analysis on production efficiency initiatives, sourcing strategies, and operational decisions
- Owns the company’s credit and collections policy, including setting and reviewing customer credit limits, authorizing order holds and releases, and managing collections escalation procedures; finance serves as the primary point of contact for all credit-related customer interactions, keeping the sales team focused on the customer relationship
- Conducts new dealer reference checks and financial vetting as part of the onboarding process, providing a recommendation to leadership prior to account activation
- Oversees accounts receivable function including AR aging review, collections outreach, and cash-in-advance enforcement, with day-to-day execution managed by the Finance Manager
- Reports directly to the CEO/President
- Success is measured by reliable COGS data, transparent margin visibility, and leadership's effective use of financial insights to inform better business decisions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
- 5–8 years of experience in accounting, with at least 1–2 years in a senior or supervisory role
- Procurement and process improvement expertise
- Ideally working experience as an accountant in a manufacturing environment
- Aptitude for number and quantitative skills
- Strong attention to detail and confidentiality
- Leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team
- Proficient with Windows operating system and Microsoft Office Programs. Advance skills with MS Excel
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in many mediums
