Job Overview:

The Sales Specialist will be responsible for day to day administrative activities for a large national account regarding pricing, cost changes, margin mining, and overall sales reporting. This role will work closely with the National Account Manager through margin enhancement activities and managing the key financial processes of the customer in order to drive profitable growth for the business relationship. Ability to continuously seek opportunities to improve efficiencies in administrative processes.

The candidate must reside within the Mid-Central market in one of the following cities: Kansas City, Memphis, Oklahoma, New Orleans, or Little Rock.


National Account Calendar Period Report -   Using the Customer Financial Period Calendar we run sales/unit reports for all  Accounts in all branches by Period Dates. The information is extracted from the AS400 then entered into an excel spreadsheet (sales totals sorted by Customer Division) and sent to the National Account Manager to utilize the report to demonstrate corporate sales growth for each division.

National Account Weekly/Monthly Margin Reports – Run margin trend reports every Monday for previous week’s results and at the end of each month.  Utilize the data to analyze and identify margin gaps or negative trends that we need to address.  Make recommendations on adjustments that need to be made.

Customer Item Code Changes or Item Code Add Form – Involves finding if item is set up in another branch, if not finding all necessary information cube, size etc. and submitting to the customer to have item set up or added to another branch. This is an ongoing process just about every day. Once a code has been set up, then the information is emailed to the Customer Sales Team each Friday.

Updating Customer Shared Folder – All customer pertinent information stored in this file. PODS, all cost changes, flyers, etc.  Access is available for all reps to view to effectively manage their customers.

Cost Changes – Once we receive a vendor letter stating that they are increasing or decreasing the Bunzl cost, we create a cost change form for both x-dock & warehouse items. It is uploaded from the AS400 and emailed.   All information is transferred and formatted. Then it is sent to National Account Manager for approval. When taking an increase we provide the customer with 30 day advance notice. If it is a cost Decline the 30-day notice does not apply. These are the most important and get these completed on a daily basis . Once the cost changes are completed, the communication of the changes are consolidated and sent to the customer Sales force for each division every Friday and then they are also placed in the shared folder.

National Account Price Centralization – (Memphis, Nashville, Kansas City, Springfield, Oklahoma, New Orleans, & Chicago). Once cost changes are approved and sent to the customer new pricing is uploaded with the correct effective date.

Price File Audit Margin Review – On a monthly basis, utilize the AS400 Price file audit process to research low or negative margin reports to determine the root cause and repair the issue immediately.

Customer Service – Occasional tasks including handling customer questions and requests, order entry and tracking orders. 

Trade Shows – Projects including creating marketing flyers, attendance, setup and coordinating with suppliers regarding attendance and items being featured.

Work closely with  National Account Sales Assistant with the customer regarding item numbers. (New items, item changes) making sure that there is only one code per Bunzl number per division. This is an ongoing process but that is our goal.

REPORTING:  All AWG accounts (X-DOCK – DSD- VMC – WRP, period Report, YTD Reports, etc.).


  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university; or one to two year's related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
  • 1-2 years previous Administrative/ Analytical experience highly preferred
  • Must be proficient in Windows (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Working knowledge of MS Project is preferred
  • AS400 knowledge preferred
  • Effective written communications skills including the ability to write business correspondence such as letters and memos
