Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Milling Operator/Set Up for our day shift to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, setting up, and operating CNC milling machines to produce precision metal components. Your expertise in machine setup, tooling, and measurement will ensure high-quality production while adhering to safety standards and manufacturing specifications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced machining equipment and contribute to efficient, precision-driven manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC milling machines, including programming using G-code and CAM software such as Mastercam or SolidWorks CAM modules.
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications to ensure accurate machining.
- Select, install, and adjust tooling and fixtures to optimize machining operations.
- Perform precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other precision instruments to verify part dimensions.
- Conduct machine calibration, tool changes, and routine maintenance to maintain optimal machine performance.
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, programming errors, or machine malfunctions; make necessary adjustments for quality and efficiency.
- Document setup procedures, inspection results, and production logs accurately for quality control records.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating CNC milling machines with a solid understanding of CNC G-code programming (Fanuc or similar controllers).
- Strong knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks and general blueprint reading skills.
- Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM), manual machining techniques including lathe work, grinding, welding, and plastics injection molding is a plus.
- Mechanical knowledge with the ability to interpret mechanical blueprints and understand measurement tools like micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations related to machining tolerances and measurements.
- Experience with machine setup, tooling selection, and precision measurement instruments in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to promote efficiency and waste reduction.
- Strong attention to detail combined with excellent problem-solving skills; ability to work independently within a team environment on the day shift.
