Job Overview:

Position Overview: The Shift Supervisor will lead and support the operational team in achieving production goals while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and efficiency standards. This role involves effective communication with management and shift members, overseeing the extrusion and finishing processes to meet customer specifications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and assign tasks to shift team members, ensuring efficient workflow.
  • Monitor and support the performance of the team, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Conduct routine quality checks on products and work-in-progress (WIP) materials, recording data accurately.
  • Utilize tools such as Beta LaserMike, calipers, and quality go/no-go gauges for quality assurance.
  • Maintain detailed records of production metrics, downtime, running conditions, changeovers, and quality compliance.
  • Oversee extrusion line start-ups and tooling changeovers to meet production schedules.
  • Manage necessary adjustments to the extrusion process to maintain quality standards.
  • Assist in the execution of Preventative Maintenance Programs and perform minor repairs on equipment.
  • Inspect components produced by operators for adherence to quality standards.
  • Manage scrap materials by grinding, segregating, and reusing in new products.
  • Verify time card information and attendance of shift members.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and housekeeping policies within the workspace.
  • Prepare and send daily absenteeism and production reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Technical School Certification required.
  • Preferred 3–5 years of experience in profile or tube extrusion, with knowledge of calibrators and vacuum sizing.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Understanding of extruded hot plastic behavior and polymer characteristics.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to train and mentor team members.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with Operators, Mechanics, Engineers, and Managers, especially during troubleshooting.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 40 lbs over a distance of 25 feet.
  • Capable of reaching above shoulder height to retrieve parts and stack pallets, with occasional bending and reaching involved.
  • Comfortable working in hot environments, particularly near the extruder head or in the pelletizing area.

Quality Standards:

  • Commitment to complying with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Ability to understand quality standards, read specification prints, and conduct thorough quality checks.
