We are seeking a hands-on, technically skilled
Prototype & 3D Printing Technician to
support urgent prototype development, 3D printing operations, testing activities, and general shop equipment needs. This position is intended to address immediate project demands and will begin as a temporary assignment, with the duration to be determined based on workload and business requirements.This role does not require a formal engineering degree. We are looking for individuals with strong practical experience in 3D printing, prototyping, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and fabrication. Candidates with extensive maker, hobbyist, technical trade, or hands-on mechanical experience are encouraged to apply, provided they can work independently in a professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and manage multiple 3D printers, ensuring print jobs are completed efficiently and accurately.
- Remove printed components and perform post-processing activities, including support removal, finishing, sanding, and surface preparation.
- Inspect printed parts for quality, dimensional accuracy, and overall print performance.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, calibrate, and repair 3D printers, testing equipment, machinery, and shop tools.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and identify opportunities for equipment repair, replacement, or process improvements.
- Design, fabricate, modify, and install fixtures to support prototype testing, production processes, and shop operations.
- Support prototype assembly, testing, evaluation, and documentation activities.
- Manage inventory of printing materials, testing supplies, consumables, and shop materials, including ordering and storage organization.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while adhering to all safety procedures and best practices.
- Assist with other prototype, fabrication, testing, and shop-related projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Experience operating and maintaining 3D printing equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing project demands.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FDM, SLA, SLS, or other additive manufacturing technologies.
- Experience with prototype fabrication, testing, or product development.
- Familiarity with equipment calibration, maintenance, and repair.
- Experience designing or building fixtures, jigs, and test setups.
- Basic CAD experience and the ability to modify or prepare files for 3D printing.
- Manufacturing, technical trade, machine shop, maintenance, or maker-space experience.
- Technical certifications, vocational training, or equivalent hands-on experience.
