The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems. The ME team strives to be the premier organization for mechanical design and development through our world class people and technology - creating trusted, innovative solutions to make the world a safer place. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.

Within the ME Organization, the Undersea, Sensors & Structures (USS) Department leads the mechanical design, development, and integration of a broad range of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers.

The USS department is looking for summer full-time Mechanical Engineering Interns, located in Portsmouth, RI.

What You Will Do

  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions (i.e. structural/thermal analyses and electrical engineering) to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Validate design fit and functionality by rapid prototyping and/or simulation
  • Support the factory and suppliers with product integration
  • Participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
  • Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers is generally required. International and longer duration travel assignments are available but optional

Qualifications You Must Have

  • This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) program and will be at minimum, entering their (Sophomore year) by the start of Summer 2026.
  • Experience with 3-D modeling software

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience in the specification, design, development, production and testing of undersea systems and electronics packaging. Knowledge of design for long term submergence, sealing, and corrosion resistance.
  • Experience on DoD programs.
  • Experience with PTC CREO and PDM.
  • Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
