AFC Cable Systems, a part of Atkore International, currently has openings for 1st shift Machinist in our New Bedford, MA facility. Monday through Friday (occasional Saturdays may be required) however training may take place on any shift.

The Machinist A will report to the Engineering Manager, Electrical Cable & Flexible Conduit (ECFC), Atkore.  

Job Responsibilities:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in Machinist Trade
  • Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and specifications for parts.
  • Selects appropriate cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials to be used on machines.
  • Examines and measures completed units and parts to identify any defects and to ensure units conform with predetermined specifications; adjusts machine controls to resolve production errors.
  • Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping.
  • Selects appropriate machine and settings for given task.
  • Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
  • Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary.
  • Maintains inventory of completed products.
  • Checks output for quality assurance and documents or discards defects.
  • Inspects machinery for any needed repairs; performs minor repairs with expertise.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Basic Knowledge of CNC technology and the manufacturing industry.
  • Complies with safety standards and regulations.
  • Dismantle and Rebuild tooling assembly’s to close tolerances.
  • Assist in major repairs in ECFC plants.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Must have basic understanding in Master CAM or Feature CAM.
  • Basic understanding in Auto Cad
  • Good coordination and mechanical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with math.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks.
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Experience working with machine tools or mechanical assembly.
  • Working knowledge of safety protocols.
  • Apprenticeship or vocational training required.
